Based in Rajahmundry in India and working in partnership with Pastor Joseph Babu, (President of Word in Action Outreach, WIAO), Oaks Community Church has helped fund the setting up and running of an orphanage in Rajahmundry.
The Orphanage is part of a wider network of orphanages under Joseph’s leadership. This orphanage is currently home to 162 children who would otherwise be on the streets being forced to live by prostitution, theft and going through peoples rubbish. Many of these young people have seen their parents die of AIDS and have the added difficulty of being treated like lepers because of their parents' illness. At the orphanage the young people receive love & care, they are fed and clothed and receive an education. The orphanage also supports a number of widows who have no family to look after them.
The children in this home are funded by finances from Oaks Community Church and Rosehill Evangelical Mission.
We regularly have mission trips to the orphanage and surrounding villages and were very impressed with how well the children are cared for and the level of education they are receiving, our hope and our prayer is that the start these young people are being given will break the cycle of poverty they can often find themselves in.
While in India we also visit a leper colony, hold pastors conferences, visit slum areas, speak at various events (including open air outreach meetings to over 1000 people at a time) and visit jungle villages delivering medicine.
